十六岁的安然上高中后，穿上姐姐安静买的一件没有纽扣的红衬衫，挺神气。安然各方面都挺好，评上“三好”是不成问题的，但她没有信心，因为她曾当众指出过韦婉老师读音上的错误，还揭穿过班长祝文娟的虚伪。一些人不喜欢她，但也有同学理解她。安静拜访韦婉，韦婉介绍了安然“坏”的表现，包括穿大红衬衫。安静不安安然穿红衬衫了，安然莫名其妙，爸爸妈妈都对她的事争辩不休。安然自有主张，依旧走自己的路。安静给韦婉一些“交易”，使安然评上了“三好”，但却遭到更多的攻击，她迷惘、孤独、困惑。用自己的眼睛去看、自己的脑子去想。同学来晓玲因家境困难，不得不辍学；刘冬虎因父母分离，不得不离开母校；爸爸一生追求，却没人赏识他的画；安静要嫁给一个有孩子的男人，平时极开通的爸爸暴跳如雷。同学告别了她，姐姐也离家而去。她还要勇敢地生活下去，拉开人一的序幕。
