《夜半歌声》是以反封建、争自由为主题的一部影片。主人公宋丹萍是个旧心革命时期的革命者，从事演剧活动。他与大地主女儿李晓霞相恋，遭到大地主的阻挠和恶霸汤俊的陷害，汤俊指使人用镪水烧毁了他的面容。宋丹萍藏匿戏院顶楼，托人假报已死，李晓霞得知后精神失常。每到夜晚，宋丹萍昂首高歌，晓霞在歌声中得到安慰。十年后，另一个剧团在这座戏院演出，青年演员孙小鸥结识了宋丹萍，宋丹萍在艺术上帮助孙小鸥。并指点他去安慰晓霞。不久汤俊在看戏时侮辱并开枪打死剧团女演员绿蝶，宋丹萍从楼跳下与之搏斗，汤失足摔死，宋丹萍也被烧死。

is a movie which thesis is against the feudalism,and fighting for freedom.The hero,Songdanping,is a revolutionary in the period of the former democracy revolution.He is an actor.He falls in love with Lixiaoxia,who is the daughter of a landlord.But the landlord refuses to accept him,and a local tyrant,Tangjun set him up,and orders others to burn his face with strong acid.After suffering from all of these,Song danping hides in the attic of the teeater and asks somebody to lie that he has died.Hearing from this,Lixiaoxia has been anoia from grief.Songdanping will sing when it comes to evening,and Xiaoxia is comforted with the songs.After 10 years,another troupe put on perfomance in this theater.By this chance,a young actor Sunxiaoougets to know Songdanping,and Song is very helpful to him.Song asks Sun to comfort Xiaoxia.Some time later,the tyrant Tangjun humiliates and killed an actress Lvdie when he is watching the show.Then Song jumped out of the attic to fight with him.Finally,Tang slips down and dies,but Song is also burned to death.
